Summertime…Summertime…Sum…Sum

Summertime! The days are hot, the nights are mellow, and fun abounds! There are activities available whether you’re an indoor or outdoor person, and regardless of how active you want to be on a particular day. Of course, summer activities are best shared with those you love the most, especially your pet bestie. Whatever your vibe, you and your furry companion are sure to find something delightful to do this summer.

Short And Sweet

While summer days are long, the season is short and sweet. For those who love outdoor adventures, there are many local places where your dog can enjoy fun and frolic at a dog park, you can enjoy a hike or a swim together, or countless other adventures you might share.

Park Adventures

For those who love outdoor adventures, there are many local places you and your pet can enjoy together. One of our favorite places to recommend is Oakdale Bark Park. It’s a great place to enjoy an outing with your dog on your schedule because it’s open from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset, making it accessible for many hours each day. It’s located just off 50th Street, between Helena Road and Heather Ridge Road and provides 4.6 acres of:

  • A wood chip walking trail
  • Wooded areas for you and your dog to explore
  • A four-foot-high fence surrounding the park
  • An entrance/exit area with two gates for extra safety when entering or exiting the park
  • Pet waste bags
  • Trash cans
  • Benches and tables in case you bring a snack or drink for you and your dog

Before you visit Oakdale Bark Park, make sure you’re aware of their rules.

If you’d like to travel a few minutes farther to St. Paul, you might like to visit:

  •  Arlington/Arkwright Off-Leash Dog Park
  • Chuck & Don’s Dog Park
  • Meeker Island Dog Park
  • High Bridge Dog Park

You can also take a walk along the Mississippi River.

If you’re looking for lunch or dinner out, your pet bestie can accompany you to a variety of places, too. You can visit:

If you’re interested in another kind of day out with your pet, consider:

There’s even Central Bark Oakdale, a puppy-safe venue where you can socialize a pup who’s eight to sixteen weeks old.

Before Your Adventure

Before embarking on any adventure with your furry friend, it’s essential to familiarize yourself with the specific rules of your chosen destination. Here are some common guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Ensure your pet is licensed
  • Keep vaccines current
  • Protect your pet’s health with flea, tick, and heartworm prevention
  • Clean up after your pet (scoop their poop)
  • Use leashes properly
